Just finished reading a book that I really enjoyed, and now it’s time for me to confess. When I first read the cover copy for DUSK on it’s release, I though “Eeesh.” It sounded impossibe to pull off in a roughly 200 page vampire novel. Boy, was I wrong. Lana Griffin not only manages to pull off the most original cast of characters in a vampire story that I’ve seen in a while, but she does it with a fantastic wit that had me laughing out loud.  It’s hard to say more without giving away the intricate plot, but I will add that mathematician-turned-voodoo priestess, Alexandra Leveau, as the voice of the story, is purely entertaining.

Even more impressive is how Griffin can keep even the most vampire-weary reader (me) devouring the pages. I’m a bit of a cynic when it comes to trying new vampire worlds and authors. Rice, Hamilton, Ward, and few others occupy my automatic buy list. Having ventured a trip into Griffin’s world, it’s no surprise to me now that she’s the alter-ego of a NYT bestselling author, and I can’t help wondering who that alter is.

The only thing I didn’t enjoy about the story was that it ended. So, I’m hoping that Griffin finds the time to take us back to Havenshire soon. Her imagination is a fertile playground that I’ve truly enjoyed visiting.

Jonas haunted me during the time I wrote Blood & Sex, Vol. 1 and continued through the third story. If he’d had his choice, I think he’d have taken all three books to himself. And I had to worry about my own sanity at times when I thought Luciano was hot, too. I mean, who starts crushing on a fictional vampire’s alternate personality of their own creation?

Ok, here’s a cool new movie that I’m dying to see. It’s a Blair Witch style haunting movie. Low budget and indie that Paramount bought. People are leaving the theater early because they’re too scared to watch the whole thing. Yes, it will probably be on DVD–at noon–next to hubby…but I can’t wait to see it!

If you’re a regular to the blog, you’re probably wondering where the heck I’ve been since June. Well, it’s been the summer from HELL! Murphy’s Law was in full effect. I had a heat stroke, hubby a light heart attack (and he’s only 35 and in great health otherwise), my daughter had a random and seemingly causeless seizure, and so on.
Then, in August, I found out that I’m pregnant!

Yep. Pregnant.

And I found out the week that my only other baby started high school!!!!

Unlike my first pregnancy, this one kept me nauseous from the time I woke up until the time I went to sleep. Dizzy every time I stood up, and I could only eat potatoes. There were a lot of concerns because of my particular genetics, problems with the first pregnancy, and the fact that I was sterile for 15 years because of PCOS. But, it’s So, here I am, 16 weeks today. The exhaustion has faded in the last week or so. The nausea is gone, and I’m ready to kick some fiction ass!

Look for some awesome updates coming soon. I’m back ba-by! Atleast until March…I’m due the 22nd…hubby’s birthday. (And yeah, that’s my little grinning alien in the 4D sonar pic at 12 weeks.)
